Our Courses
Summer High School Credit Courses in Italy

Our courses meet the curriculum requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education and meet the curriculum standards of Canadian senior high school guidelines. Our program includes 110 hours of instructional time to fulfill the curriculum requirements.

Upon successful completion of the course, Ontario students will receive an Ontario Ministry of Education course credit for inclusion in their Ontario Student Record.

Credits are awarded by Century Private School and are open to students everywhere.

Students from schools outside of Ontario may have the academic courses accredited by their individual schools or local school boards. These students are advised to get pre approval prior to applying by printing the appropriate course outline below and bringing it to their guidance counsellors for review.

Prior to departure, students will participate in 25 hours of online classes.

Onsite classes will take place in modern classrooms at the University of Siena in Siena, Italy.

Onsite classes run daily from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Descriptions
Grade 12 English -ENG 4U1
This course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy ,communication, and critical and creative thinking skills. Students will analyze a range of literary texts from various periods with a focus on Italian Canadian literature. Students will interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. This course is intended to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace.

While in Rome you will visit the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and more historic highlights. Florence will be our main stage: Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Porcellino market, Uffizi Gallery and l’Accademia delle Belle Arti. You will explore the city as no tourist has ever done. Time will be devoted to sketching and painting, but don’t worry if you are not a talented artist. Before you leave, we will teach you the skills you will need to create your own masterpieces! This exciting Art course will immerse students in the art, language, food, history and culture of Italy.

Grade 12 Classical Civilizations LVV4U- 1 credit
This course introduces students to the rich, cultural legacy of the classical World. Students will investigate aspects of classical culture, including mythology, literature, art, architecture, philosophy, science and technology, as well as elements of the ancient Greek and Latin languages. Students will develop creative and critical thinking skills through exploring and responding to works by classical authors in English translation. They will also increase their communication and research skills by working collaboratively and independently, and will acquire an understanding and appreciation of the interconnectedness of ancient and modern societies.
