The program was established by Mary Battista, retired YCDSB Interim Director and Curriculum Superintendent. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to experience Italy’s diverse regions, with their many cultural, historical, artistic, architectural and religious sights, while earning a high school credit.  She has seen firsthand the impact of learning abroad for students.  Mary has visited Italy many times and continues to discover new unique sights, historical towns, restaurants and tours to offer students. The cultural immersion and friendships formed are invaluable, and she looks forward to continuing to support students with this experience.  

Since 2017, over 500 students have enjoyed this unique and amazing experience. Through structured classroom instruction and experiential learning,  the students have an opportunity to earn extra high-school credits. All the teachers are certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. The teachers are experienced teachers who have taught the course in the past, and are familiar with the curriculum, the setting and expectations. There has been nothing but excellent feedback from both students and parents regarding the organization of the trip, the attention to detail, the caliber of the teachers and course content. 

Safety is first and foremost during our travels abroad, and all aspects are addressed. We have organized an amazing itinerary complete with exciting day trips and memorable experiences. The student- chaperone ratio is 1:10.
